Obituary

Verna Perdew, 80 of Lake Placid, Fl passed away peacefully in her home with her family by her side on May 12, 2021. She was born to Logan and Polina Wilburn in Lockbourne, Ohio on April 30, 1941. Verna graduated from Chesterhill High School in 1959. She married in 1961 and had 2 Children. She lived with her family in Columbus Ohio until 1969 when they moved to Swanton Ohio and made it their home. She worked nights as a dispatcher for the sheriff's office so she could be home to raise her family during the day. Verna was one of the first female EMT's in the State of Ohio in the early 70's and ran as a volunteer for the Swanton Rescue Squad until 1979.   She found it very rewarding to help people in her community. She worked as a switchboard operator in the office at Pilliod Cabinet Company for 16 years until she moved to Sarasota Florida in 1991 to be close to her Grandchildren. She enjoyed the sun, beach, ocean and loved the warm weather after living in the North most of her life. She then moved to Lake Placid, FL in 1994 where she made it her permanent home. Verna worked at Hughes Supply in Sebring as an office manager until she retired in 2004. Verna is survived by her Daughter Terri (Art) Miller, her Grandchildren David (Sarah) Thornton, Nick (Mel) Lockett Thornton and Alex (Amanda Polston) Miller and her Brother's Bill Wilburn and Logan Jr. (Mary) Wilburn and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Logan (Polina) Wilburn, her Son Mark A Perdew, her Sister's Nina, Jenny, Evelyn and Cindy and her Brother's Calhoun and Ronnie. There will be a celebration of life in the summer or fall of 2021 on Siesta Key Beach, one of places she enjoyed the most.
