Tom passed away after a lengthy stay at AdventHealth Medical Care Facility in Sebring, Florida.  Tom was born in Columbus, Ohio.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothea McCain Wallace and Bernard Wallace, and brother, Jimmy Wallace of Powder Springs, Georgia.  He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Mary Greene Wallace of Deep Gap, North Carolina and Sebring, Florida, his sister; Jan (John) Slowter of Stockport, Ohio, sister-in-law; Debbie Wallace of Powder Springs, Georgia, god-daughter; Courtney (Marcus) Riley of Marietta, Ohio, brother-in-law and sister-in-law; Gene and Laurie Greene of Fleetwood, North Carolina, sister-in-law; Judy Greene of Deep Gap, North Carolina and nieces and nephews.  Tom graduated from high school and volunteered for the US. Army in 1960 where he served his country for 21 years and retired as a Sergeant First Class US Army.  He served two tours in Viet Nam and was awarded two Purple Hearts and the award of Valor for his bravery and courage, beyond the call of duty.  He served in the 173rd Army Airborne Brigade "Sky Soldiers" based in Okinawa, Japan.  They were the first US Army ground combat unit deployed to Viet Nam.  Tom took his service to our country extremely serious and always said he was proud to have served.  He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a Shriner.  He was a generous donator to Shriners Hospital for children.  He was a member of the Laurel Springs, Baptist Church in Deep Gap, North Carolina.  Tom loved golf, fishing, traveling and working on small projects.  His closest friends called him "Tinker Tom" because you could always find him tinkering with something!   A service to celebrate Tom's life will be held 3PM, Sunday, March 15, 2026, at the Rec Hall with Pastor Cecil Hess officiating.  Military honors will be presented by the Post 4300 Honor Guard.  Words of comfort to the family can be made by visiting www.scottfuneralservices.com.  Arrangements entrusted with the Scott Funeral Home, Lake Placid, FL., 863-465-4134.
