Sharon Gerken, 79, of Lake Placid passed away peacefully at her residence surrounded by her loving family on Friday May 14, 2021.   Sharon was born on January 12, 1942 in Buffalo, NY and was the daughter of Cecilia (Weber) and Roy Wittmeyer.  Sharon has been a resident of Lake Placid for the past 17 years moving here from Eden, New York where she was a retired teacher's aid in the local school system. Sharon was an active member and volunteer in the community, always willing to lend a helping hand.  She was a member of the Placid Lakes Garden Club, Lake Placid Historical Society, Lake Placid Chamber of Commerce and the St. James Catholic Church in Lake Placid.  She enjoyed gardening, sewing, and spending as much time as possible with her family and friends.  Sharon is survived by her devoted husband of 61 years, Richard, daughters; Suzanne Beers and husband Paul Beers, and Jennifer Gerken, and son; Richard Gerken.  She is also survived by brothers; Bob and wife Rosina, Denny and wife Lynda, and Jim Wittmeyer,  as well as many cousins.  A gathering for family and friends to celebrate Sharon's life will be held at a later date.
