Ruby C. Hall "The Cookie Lady", 89, of Lake Placid went to be with her Lord surrounded by family and friends Saturday afternoon October 15, 2011 at the Lake Placid Health Care Center. She was born at home on July 25, 1922 in Cairo, Illinois to parents Frankel and Bertha Pearl (Smith) Carney. After graduating from Cairo, IL, High School. Ruby became an employee of MaBell as a switchboard operator and also an employee of the US Government as part of the "Women's Ground Observer Corp" protecting the United States airways at the onset of and during WWII. It was during this time that Ruby met and married Master Sgt. Robert W. Hall after two weeks of courtship. After WWII Ruby and Bob moved to Miami Springs where they opened Hall & Boyd Dairy with Herman Boyd. She also opened and ran two flower shops, International House of Flowers I and II until selling out and moving to Venus in 1961. There, they opened and ran Fisheating Creek Dairy and Cattle Company until retiring. Mrs. Hall was an avid ice skater, water skier, swimmer, diver, horse woman and enjoyed baking cookies and fruit cakes for her family and friends. Ruby was also a member of Miami Springs Jr. Woman's Club and was a life long Lady Lion. She was an active member at the First Baptist Church of Lake Placid where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday and Vacation Bible School and worked in Women's Missions. Mrs. Hall is preceded in death by her loving husband Robert "Bob", parents, a brother Frankel Carney, Jr., and a nephew Phillip Wayne Carney and is survived by her loving daughter, Janice Hall-Ortiz; granddaughters, Lydia Ashley Cortez and Lyncia Daniel Chapman; 4 great grandchildren Taylor and Toby Chapman and Tristan and Tatan Cortez; nieces, Jerrie Coler and Kim Powell along with many extended family members. Her love and kindness for other will be greatly missed. The family will receive friends Friday October 21, 2011 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM with funeral services celebrating Mrs. Hall's life beginning at 2:00 PM at the Scott Funeral Home 504 W. Interlake Blvd., Lake Placid with Pastor Mike Ford celebrating. Burial will follow at the Oak Hill Cemetery.
