Roy Nelson Helms, 81, of Lake Placid, passed away on Thursday evening January 8, 2015 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Sebring surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Helms was born on August 4, 1933 in Bascom, FL to parents Hazel (Rogers) and Roy Lee Helms. Mr. Helms served his country with honors in the US Navy. He moved to Lake Placid and retired as a manager and continued as a consultant in the citrus production industry. Mr. Helms was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness Lake Placid Congregation. Mr. Helms enjoyed fishing and hunting when he was younger, then turned his attention to what was the most important thing in his life, serving God and preaching the good news of the Kingdom. He loved spending time with his family and friends. Mr. Helms is preceded in death by his loving wife of 48 years Ruth, and a granddaughter Brittney. He is survived by his loving daughters, Rita McGuire (Bill) and Anita Stewart; son, Roger Helms (Alicia); 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and a sister Mary McTeer. A memorial service for Mr. Helms will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, January 17, 2015 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness Lake Placid 172 Holmes Avenue, Lake Placid, FL with Elder Ken Langley officiating.
