Obituary

Ricky D. Townsel, 77 of Lake Placid, Florida went home to be with his Lord on April 12, 2026, at Good Shepherd Hospice in Sebring, Florida. Ricky was born on November 28, 1948 to Mattie Lou (Ivey) and Johnie Townsel in Ft. Payne, Alabama. Rick lived his life as a book with many chapters. He was a man who preferred experiences over possessions. If he made up his mind to do something he accomplished it without hesitation. Rick never met a stranger that didn't walk away a friend, to be met up with another day to share a meal or experience. Rick was willing to try almost anything except jumping out of a perfectly good airplane. He'd say, "Do you see my wings?"I'd reply, "Not yet, but someday!" Rick traveled all over the USA as an owner/operator truck driver. He saw the signs to everywhere. When he returned home he would tell me, "When we retire, we are going to see the wonders that the signs hold. Upon retirement we accomplished that dream traveling all over the lower 48 states and there were many wonders to behold. He was just waiting for the bridge to be built so we could go to Hawaii. A NASCAR race or SEC football game, "Roll Tide!" were rarely missed. You could find him in the Man Cave or on the patio with his trusty Pit Boss Smoker. His tasty creations would rival, Myron Mixon's. Unfortunately it was a once in your life experience since he never wrote down his recipes. Rick's journey in this life had it's roller coaster moments, ups, downs, twist and turns, but unlike so many he was steadfast in what he believed was important. His Faith, Family, Friends, and Country were his highest priorities. Rick has finished his earthly journey and now stands in the Victory that his Savior, Jesus Christ won for him. Although we are heartbroken we rejoice in his Victory. Rick is survived by his beloved wife Clare; his children, Angela, Stephanie, and Shawn; grandchildren, great-grandchildren; two sisters, Beverly and Patsy; and a wide circle of friends who are considered family. Rick was known by many names: son, husband, daddy, papa, pastor, and friend, but the greatest ofthese is, "Child of God." John 1:12 A celebration of Papa Rick's life will be held at Liberty Baptist Church in Henager, Alabama at a later date. The family asks that you honor Rick's memory by doing something kind for a stranger or spend time with family and friends doing something you love.
