IN LOVING MEMORY OF

Gerken
June 27, 1938 – October 24, 2024
In Loving Memory of Richard Edward Gerken
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Richard E Gerken, a cherished resident of Lake Placid, FL, who left us on October 24, 2024.
Richard was born on June 27, 1938, in Lackawanna, NY, to Lydia Bruno and Edward Gerken. He has two brothers, Gordon Gerken(deceased) and Thomas Gerken (Ginger).
After he graduated from Orchard Park High School in 1956, he met the love of his life, Sharon Wittemeyer (deceased) and were married for over 60 years. They were blessed with three children: Suzanne Beers (Paul), Richard Gerken, and Jennifer Gerken.
Richard served in the United States Army. After a fulfilling career in private industry, he retired and spent time giving back to his community. He was a dedicated volunteer at Amvets in Sebring Post 21. While he served as Commander, he proudly helped the community come together to raise funds for a new K-9 to commemorate a fallen officer. Additionally, he served as president of the Lake Placid Historical Society Depot Museum, where he was involved in the town's museum initiatives.
In his spare time, Richard enjoyed golfing and boating, passions that brought him much joy and peace.
Services will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Amvets Post 21 in Sebring FL.
Richard's kindness, dedication, and love for his family and community will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
