Obituary


Reginald Lloyd Stimson, 86, of Lake Placid, FL went home to be with his Lord on Tuesday, April 17, 2018 surrounded by family at his bedside. He was born May 30, 1931 in Ferndale, MI to Gordon Benjamin Stimson and Jessie Emmons. Reginald completed Ford Trade School in Detroit, MI. He then joined the Navy and served in the Korean War as a fire control technician, Class USN-1 on the U.S.S. Bremerton (CA-130) from 1951-1955. He received the Korean Service Medal (3 stars), United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, China Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and Korean Presidential Unit Citation. After the military he lived in Lantana, FL and worked as a radio and television technician until moving to Lake Placid, FL in 1967. He worked for Ladney's Nursery and Woody's Aluminum from 1967-1985. He moved to Ashe County, NC and worked for Ashe Emergency Vehicles and Parker Tie Hardware. In 2003, he moved to Wilmington, NC where he worked at Lowes until he retired at age 84. In 2016, he returned to live with family in Lake Placid, FL. Reginald loved living on a farm, building and fixing things. He taught his children his skills and stressed the importance of being dependable and hardworking. Reginald was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Stimson of 61 years and daughter Wendy Ann Hunt. He will be missed by his six half brothers and one half sister: Don Stimson, Doug Stimson, Gary Stimson, Frank Stimson, John Stimson, Ron Stimson, and Debbie Stimson Stroh. His sons Glenn (Jackie) Stimson of Lake Placid, FL, Gene Stimson of Havana, FL, and Chris Stimson of Rocky Point, NC. Grandchildren: Jason Brown of St. Cloud, FL, Kevin Stimson (Dawn) of Clearwater, FL, Pat Bray of Sebring, FL, Dustin Thompson of Alpharetta, GA, Brian (Lacey) Stimson of Sebring. Great grandchildren: Trent Bray, Kylie Stimson, Jacob Thompson, Zachary Brown, Bryce Bray, Ainsley Brown, Jacob Stimson and many extended family and friends. A service to celebrate Reginald's life will be held 10:30 AM, Saturday, June 9, 2018 at the Scott Funeral Home 504 W. Interlake Blvd., Lake Placid with Pastor Chris Taylor officiating. Military honors will be provided by the VFW Post 4300 Honor Guard. The family suggests donations in Reginald's memory to the Highlands Hammock State Park 5931 Hammock Road, Sebring, FL.
