IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ramon (Ray)
Diaz
October 6, 1944 – August 20, 2025
Ramon (Ray) Diaz, age 80, of Lake Placid, Florida, formerly of Key Largo, Florida and Goreville Illinois, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2025, in his favorite place at home in the care of his devoted wife of 41 years Melinda, daughter Lynn Davidson, granddaughter Kayleigh Davidson, sister-in-law Donna Serrett and nephew Philip Serrett.
Born October 6, 1944, in Havana, Cuba, to Ramon Diaz and Dora Perez. He proudly became an American citizen and made the United States his home.
Devoted husband and best friend to Melinda with whom he shared a lifetime of love, laughter, and countless dances together. Ramon the cherished father of Ruthie, Erik, and Lynn, and the adoring Papa to 12 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
He is also survived by his sister Zonnia Diaz Alvarez, sister-in-law Donna Serrett, nieces Karla Rodriguez and Susan MacDonald, nephew Philip Serrett, nieces Amanda Wells, Kristen Hilliard, Jennifer Nichols, and nephew David Serrett.
Ramon was preceded in death by parents Ramon Diaz, Dora Perez, and son Erik Diaz.
Ramon lived life with a joyful spirit. Known for saying, "no worries," he embodied that philosophy every day — never taking things too seriously, always finding the bright side, and making those around him laugh. He never met a stranger and carried a happy-go-lucky outlook that lifted everyone he encountered.
A proud union meat-cutter for many years at Kroger Marion Illinois. Ramon worked with integrity and dedication, providing for his family and earning the respect of those around him. His strong work ethic extended beyond his trade — he poured that same care into building homes, maintaining them with precision, and improving everything he touched.
Ramon loved his tennis playing 3 times each week, also an avid hunter, fisherman, and lover of the outdoors, finding peace and joy in nature. Whether casting a line, tracking game, or simply soaking in the beauty around him.
To his family, he was more than a husband, father, and grandfather — he was the heart of every gathering, the life of the party, the giver of wise advice, and the constant source of love and encouragement. He will be remembered for his humor, his generosity, his love for dancing with Melinda, and the deep devotion he had for his family.
In keeping with his wishes, there will be no formal funeral service. His family encourages those who knew him to honor his memory in their own way — by sharing a story, raising a glass, enjoying the outdoors, or simply living with the same "no worries" spirit he carried so well.
