Noemi Johnson, age 92, formerly of Coral Gables, passed peacefully on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, in Lake Placid, Florida. Noemi (Mita) was born August 19, 1930, in Guayaquil, Ecuador. The daughter of Antonio Eduardo Arce and Clara Luz Patiño de Arce. She was the 1st of 8 children. In Guayaquil, Mita attended the American School, and in 1946, she and her siblings, Antonio, and María, were sent to The Harley School in Rochester, New York. After attending the University of Rochester and receiving a B.A. From the University of Miami, Mita went on to earn her M.A. in education from Barry College. She taught elementary grades at Shenandoah Elementary in Miami, and took early retirement in 1992. She was a member of the Little Flower Catholic Church in Coral Gables, and St. Francis of Assisi Anglican Episcopal Church in Lake Placid. While her health allowed, Mita loved reading, traveling, embroidering, taking classes, visiting her grandchildren and keeping up with long time friends. Mita is survived by her loving and devoted daughter, Lisa Kneen and her husband, Ronald, 7 grandchildren; Lila Angel (Jeremy), Joshua, Daniel, Brandon (Shawna), Chelsea Svendsen (Ben), Caleb, Caitlin, and 13 great -grandchildren. Mita is also survived by her sister Alegría Arce Hibbetts, husband Charles, of Austin, Texas, sister María Wentworth, husband Gerald,from New Hampshire, brother Jorge Antonio Arce, wife Marilyn, of Marietta, Georgia, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Robert, and longtime companion, William Rew, sister Lucy Melendez, and brother Antonio Arce. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, June 16 2023 at the Graceland Memorial Park North, located at 4420 SW 8th Street, Miami, Florida. Pastor David Pereira will officiate.
