Obituary

Melvin S. Westberg, 96, of Lake Placid went to be with his Lord on Saturday afternoon November 2, 2013 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Sebring. Melvin was born on March 28, 1917 in Chicago, IL to parents Ebba (Baum) and Sidney David Westberg. At the age of two he and his family moved to Ft. Lauderdale by train and resided on the New River where they farmed. During the depression he and his family returned to Chicago for work. As a young man Mr. Westberg moved to Miami and started his business Mel's Auto Service. In 1942 Mr. Westberg enlisted into the US Navy where he served in the Pacific Theater on a troop carrier and was honorably discharged in 1945 at the rank of Machinist Mate First Class. He then became a heavy equipment mechanic for a company in Miami. Mr. Westberg enjoyed fishing, boating, repairing everything and puttering in the garage and loved spending time with his family and friends. Mr. Westberg was of the Christian faith. Mr. Westberg is preceded in death by his loving wife Virginia and is survived by his loving sons, James and Dennis Westberg; 3 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; sister, Evelyn Winters and brother, Gerald S. Westberg. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM Friday afternoon November 8th with funeral services to celebrate Melvin's life 11:00 AM Saturday November 9, 2013 at the Scott Funeral Home 504 W. Interlake Blvd., Lake Placid, FL with Rev. Timothy Haas officiating. Graveside Military Honors by the VFW Post 4300 Honor Guard to follow services at the Oak Hill Cemetery.
