Melisa Sowers (nee Geeting) was born December 27, 1953 in Miami, Florida to Percy Franklin Geeting and Norma Geeting (née Tompkins). She grew up in Miami's Kendall area. Her family eventually relocated to Lake Placid, Florida, prior to her senior year of high school, where she graduated in 1971. After a brief move to Jacksonville, Florida, Melisa returned to Lake Placid, where she was introduced to Craig Sowers, who was teaching her youngest sister at Lake Placid High School. The two hit it off and fell in love. They were married in May of 1976.

Vocationally, Melisa found clerical work at local law offices in Lake Placid. After years of this, she was hired by the Clerk of Courts for Highlands County and served there for over 20 years in the Traffic and Juvenile Divisions, eventually coordinating Highlands County's inaugural Teen Court program for first-time juvenile offenders.

Upon retirement, Melisa, with her husband, helped care for her aging mother in Lake Placid.

After her mother's passing, they moved to Tallahassee, Florida, for a brief stint and ultimately to Jacksonville, Florida, to be close to her sons and grandchildren.

Melisa enjoyed traveling with her family, spending time with friends, and baking with her granddaughters. She believed Christ is her one true foundation and hopes you all do the same.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Craig.

Melisa is survived by sons Kellum (Sarah) and Kristopher, all of Jacksonville, FL; Siblings Terry Lynn Clinard of Garner, Florida, and Gale Saddler of Jacksonville, Florida; Granddaughters Kathryn, Lauren, and Olivia; and other nephews, nieces, cousins, in-laws, and out-laws throughout our great nation.

A service to celebrate Melisa's life will be held 2:00 PM, Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at the Scott Funeral Home, 504 W. Interlake Blvd., Lake Placid, FL 863-465-4134.
