Obituary

Maxine Fidler passed away peacefully, in her home, on December 29, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of strength. Born in Homer, Georgia, Maxine went on to live a life defined by love, determination, and a fearless and feisty spirit. She spent many years in Miami, Florida, where she and her beloved husband of 47 years, Jack, raised their three strong-willed and beautiful daughters, and built a life grounded in family and community.

35 + years ago, Maxine and Jack retired to Lake Placid, Florida, where they truly made their dreams come true. Together, they designed and constructed their home entirely themselves—a testament to their partnership, creativity, and shared vision. That home became a gathering place filled with laughter, stories, food, and friendship.

Maxine was deeply connected to her community. She volunteered her time with Meals on Wheels and then with the Lake Placid Chamber of Commerce for over 30 years combined. Maxine was always eager to give back and stay involved in the place she lived. She loved being social -playing cards and dominoes, sharing meals with friends, and keeping up with everyone around her.

Her front porch was her stage and her sanctuary. From there, she connected with the entire neighborhood, often sharing the delicious bounty from her prized mango tree. Maxine was honest, spirited, and unapologetically herself - qualities that endeared her to many and made her unforgettable.

Throughout her life, Maxine collected people, and wildlife, wherever she went. Many delighted in hearing the story of her Great Blue Heron friend, Oscar, whom she often fished for and who would come when she called his name. She found joy in her morning walks with friends and cherished the time spent with her Florida and Colorado family's.

Maxine's life was full, vibrant, and deeply connected. She leaves behind a legacy of love, community, and unforgettable stories that will continue to be shared for generations. Maxine is survived by her three loving daughters; Nancy, Robin and Susan. Grand children, in birth order, Jeffery, Kerrin, John, Mathew, and Anthony as well as great grandchildren and the many people (and creatures) whose lives were brighter for having been loved by her.
