Mary Ellen McGowan 78, of Lake Placid went home to be with her Lord on Friday September 17, 2021, at Highlands Regional Medical Center in Sebring after battling COVID. She was a native of Alabama born June 14, 1943, in Loxley. She was the daughter of Isaiah Mosley and Gladys Norton. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church of Lake Placid, Florida. She was a resident of Southern Lifestyles Assisted Living facility in Lake Placid where she served as the Resident Council President. She loved reading her Bible and enjoyed all the activities where she lived. She loved to dance and play cards with her friends. She worked at GPW State Hospital in Arcadia, Florida and later as a Certified Nursing Assistant for a home health company. She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers Vernon Mosley and Frank Driskell and sister Christine Mathis, son Billie Joe Payne, and several grandchildren. She is survived by her daughter Louise Hudson Ray and husband Cliff of Lake Placid, her son Homer Hudson and wife Tracy of Perdido, Alabama and her sister Bobbi Jean Linton of Robertsdale, Alabama, 6 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and 5 great- great grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by family and friends. Her desire was that everyone come to know Jesus as their personal Savior.  A funeral service to celebrate Mary's life will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, September 26, 2021 at the Bethel Baptist Church of Lake Placid 216 E. Park Street.  A visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to service time.
