IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Martha Dale
(Thurston) Lusby
July 2, 1946 – August 17, 2022
Martha Dale (Thurston) Lusby passed away Wednesday August 17, 2022 at Bedrock Southern Lifestyle in Lake Placid, Florida. She is survived by her husband of fifty-six years, Robert, sons Michael and Gregory of Lakeland, Florida, and her sister Sherilee of Fishers, Indiana. Preceding her in death were her younger sister, Linda, and parents George and Betty Thurston. Marty was born in Indianapolis July 2, 1946 and graduated from Warren Central high school in 1964. In 1966 she married Bob Lusby whom she had met in high school and accompanied him at Air Force bases around the world. Marty lived in a number of different locations in the lower forty-eight as well as Japan, Greece, and England. Between those overseas tours she lived in Oklahoma, Texas, Colorado, Virginia, Indiana, and Nebraska before settling in Sebring for several years after Bob retired from the Air Force in 1986. She lived Lafayette, Indiana from 1993 to 2021 prior to her and Bob moving to an assisted living facility in Lake Placid.
Living overseas and raising two boys provided opportunities for Marty to become involved in a variety of activities. When the boys were young, she volunteered in their schools, and became very good at helping with phonics reading and cursive writing. This led to her working as a special education teacher's aide in England, Nebraska, Sebring, and Avon Park. She was also a Cub Scout Den Mother and Youth Bowling coach in Greece. In Lafayette she worked in a day care, house cleaning, reading tutor, and for several years volunteered with the Friends of the Library. An interesting and unusual job was working in a laboratory in Sebring at Hartman Industries making plants in test tubes for commercial sale.
Marty will be interred in Gosport, Indiana. Graveside services will be arranged at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Parkinson foundation. Cremation performed by Scott Seawinds Funeral Home and Crematory of Lake Placid.
