Luis E. Rivera Bernard, 81, of Lake Placid went to be with his Lord on Friday morning April 12, 2013 at the Kindred Hospital Bay Area Tampa surrounded by his family. He was born on January 4, 1932 in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico to parents Rosa Bernard and Ignacio Rivera. He served his country in the US Marine Corp in Korea. Luis moved to Lake Placid 19 years ago from New York and was a retired printer. Luis enjoyed singing in church, writing poems, making people laugh; helping others, neighbors, friends and people he did not know along with woodworking, politics and being a handyman. He loved spending time with his family and friends at gatherings. He was a member of the Nuevo Pacto Methodist Church in Sebring. Luis is survived by his loving wife Iraida; daughter, Sylvette Rivera; son, Luis Rivera, Jr.; step-son, Juan A. Soto; three grandchildren, Tania, Ivonne and Ivaniells Rivera; 7 great grandchildren; sisters, Carmen M and Noemi Rivera; brothers, Hector, Jose A., Carlos, Ruben and Benjamin Rivera. A visitation for family and friends will be held Sunday (Today) 2-4 PM April 14, 2013 with funeral services to celebrate Luis life beginning at 3:00 PM at the Scott Funeral Home 504 W. Interlake Blvd., Lake Placid with Pastor Luz E. Maldonado officiating. The family suggest donations be made in Luis memory to the family or the church.
