Leslie J. Swann III, a US Air Force Vietnam veteran, passed away suddenly on Friday, September 30 in Lake Placid, Florida at the age of 79.
Les was born in Huntington WV and moved to Eustis and eventually Lake Worth, Florida where he settled until his retirement. He graduated from Lake Worth High School in 1960 and then married his bride Shirley before enlisting in the US Air Force where he served for 8 years, with 2 years overseas and 1 year in Vietnam. After his military service he became a career law enforcement officer with both the Boynton Beach Police Department and Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office until his retirement in 2004. He was a loyal friend to many in Lake Placid and known for his love of fishing, pickle ball, bowling, baseball, Texas hold 'em, and all of his 4-legged companions over the years.
Les is survived by his wife, Shirley; his children Debra Stewart of Royal Palm Beach, Sherry (Thomas) Jones of West Palm Beach, Leslie J. (Tara) Swann IV of Moncure NC, and Nicole (John) Evans of Hanahan, SC; grandchildren Nicole Stewart, Mark (Ashlyn) Stewart Jr, Sydney Jones, Taylor Waters, Savannah Jones, Leslie J. "LV" Swann V, and Grady Swann; his brother John (Lisa) Swann of Atlanta, GA; niece Allison (Rick) Toller and nephew Matthew (Antoinette) Swann; as well as many cousins, extended family and his dog Chevy. He is preceded in death by his parents Leslie J Swann Jr and Patricia Swann (Radford) and his son-in-law Mark Stewart Sr.
The family will receive friends at a visitation and viewing from 10:00 to 12:00 on Monday, October 10 at Scott Seawinds Funeral Home, 504 W Interlake Blvd, Lake Placid, FL 33852.
