Obituary

Leonard A. Samelak, 87 of Lake Placid, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday evening September 9, 2014 at the Highlands Regional Medical Center in Sebring.

He was born on May 10, 1927 in Toledo, Ohio to parents Vivian (Irving) and Andrew Samelak. Mr. Samelak served his country as a corpsman in both the US Navy and the US Marine Corps during WWII honorably. A retired engineer with the City of Toledo, Leonard moved to Murphy, NC then became a resident in Lake Placid nine years ago.

Mr. Samelak enjoyed singing, playing several different instruments, watching old TV western movies, and fishing and loved spending time with both family and friends. He was a member of the American Legion Walter Weller Post 135 in Toledo, the VFW and the First Baptist Church of Lake Josephine in Sebring.

Mr. Samelak is survived by his loving wife of nine years Anita, daughters; Janet Ritter and Patricia Thorpe, five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Funeral services to celebrate Mr. Samelak's life will be 11: AM Saturday (Today) September 13, 2014 at the Scott Funeral Home 504 W. Interlake Blvd., Lake Placid with Dr. Kevin Ahrens officing. A visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to service time. Military honors will be presented by the VFW Post 4300 Honor Guard. Mr. Samelak will be laid to rest at the Sarasota National Cemetery.
