IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Laverne Midgett
Owen
August 18, 1931 – February 18, 2024
Laverne Midgett Owen was born August 18, 1931 in Lebanon, Tennessee to the parents of William Dayton "Dick" Midgett and Annie Gertrude Hall Midgett. She was the sixth of eight children. On June 24, 1948, she married Harold Franklin Owen in Lebanon, Tennessee. There they had their two children, Donald Allen Owen and Beverly Sue Owen. In 1960, Laverne moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida with her husband and two children to begin their legacy at Western Electric (AT&T). In 1976, they discovered Lake Placid, Florida where they spent their weekends having the time of their lives surrounded by friends, family, laughter, joy, and fun. After nearly 30 years of service as supervisors at Western Electric (AT&T), they retired and moved to Lake Placid permanently, quickly becoming integral parts of the community, when they were not traveling the world. Laverne was involved in the Lake Placid Garden Club, the Caladium Co-op, Salvation Army, Highlands County Fair, and the Caladium Festival, just to name a few. In 2010, Laverne lost her husband and moved to Cumming, Georgia to be near her children and grandchildren, where she lived the remainder of her years, while enjoying NASCAR, the Georgia Bulldogs and most importantly HER Atlanta Braves with them. Laverne passed away on the morning of February 18, 2024, in the arms of her daughter, Beverly Sue, after spending her last day surrounded by her loving family. Sadie Laverne Midgett Owen is survived by her two children, "Donnie" Owen (Donna Owen), "Susie" Owen (Barry Bennett), and her four grandchildren; Justin Owen (Tiffany Owen), Holly Varona, Danielle Owen, and Krista Howland. In lieu of flowers, Laverne and family have requested donations be made to her favorite organization, the Lake Placid Garden Club, P.O. Box 2193, Lake Placid, Florida 33852
