Karen Lee Burrus, 81, of Sebring, formally of Wauchula went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday afternoon at the Florida Hospital Heartland Medical Center in Sebring. Karen was the daughter of Ruth (Lingafelter) and Victor Cresswell who was born on June 20, 1937 in Moline, Illinois. A long time resident of Florida, Karen was a school teacher in both the Hardee and Highlands County School System where she retired with many years of service. She enjoyed sharing new ideas with her students and helping learn new subjects. Karen enjoyed her music, playing the clarinet, singing in the church choir, any musical event that she could be a part of and shopping for that best deal at Chico's. She loved to be with her family and friends when ever she could especially her grand and great grandchildren. Karen is survived by her loving husband of 60 plus years Chuck, children; Mark Burrus, Robyn Norris (Ben), Susan Prestridge (John), Chris Burrus (Daleace), Kathy McCray (Tim), grandchildren; Christie Fitz-Patrick (Dan), Matt Burrus, Courtney Kahn (Daniel), Kara Devore (Clark), Garrett Norris, Brandon Prestridge (Melissa), Brooke Prestridge (fiancé Phil Nguyen), Amanda and Nicholas Burrus, Ashley Floyd (Matt), Zachary McCray (fiancé Hope McMahan), great-grandchildren, Ryan and Hayley Floyd, brothers; Victor Cresswell, Brad Cresswell (Jenny) niece; Brenda Cresswell and nephew; Elliot Cresswell. A service to celebrate Karen's life will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, July 14, 2018 at the church where she was a member, First Presbyterian Church Lake Placid 118 N. Oak Avenue, Lake Placid with Rev. Drew Severance officiating. A visitation for family and friends will be one hour prior to service time. Immediately after the funeral service, lunch will be served during a time of fellowship. Burial will follow at the Oak Hill Cemetery.
