IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joseph And
Mary Alice Schonberger
March 14, 2025
Joseph and Mary Alice Schonberger, devoted partners in life and love, are reunited once more. Joseph William Schonberger, born on December 25, 1942, passed away on December 3, 2020. Mary Alice Schonberger, nee Thompson, born on February 6, 1946, followed him on March 14, 2025.
Joe and Mary Alice were married on August 26, 1967, and together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and unwavering dedication to each other. Joe, a graduate of Northeast High School, was a skilled jeweler, and Mary Alice, a proud alumna of St. Hubert's Catholic High School for Girls, was not only his partner in business but in every aspect of life.
They were born and raised in Philadelphia, where they built their life and careers. The family business, Schonberger Jewelers, was established in 1926 and was a fixture on Jewelers' Row in Philadelphia for 77 years. Joe proudly carried on the tradition from his father until he retired and closed the store in 2003. In 2004, he and Mary Alice moved to Lake Placid, Florida, to enjoy their golden years together.
Their bond was one of faithful companionship, a love story that continued even after Joe's passing, as Mary Alice carried his memory with her until they could be together again. Their kindness, warmth, and generosity touched the lives of many, and they left behind a legacy of love that will be cherished forever.
Joe and Mary Alice are survived by their loving son, Joseph Schonberger Jr., who carries forward their memory and the values they instilled.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 10th at St. James Catholic Church, 3380 Placid View Drive, Lake Placid, FL 33852, at 1:00 pm.
In honoring their memory, the family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to The Humane Society of Highlands County, an organization that reflects their compassionate spirit. Contributions can be made at www.humanesocietyofhighlandscounty.org.
