Johanna Elizabeth Taetz, 98, one month short of 99, of Lake Placid went to be with her Lord on Monday afternoon September 20, 2010 at the Southern Lifestyles ALF where she has been a resident for the past four months. Mrs. Taetz was born on October 20, 1911 in Loose Creek, MO to parents Michael and Mary (Boessen) Muenks. She and her family resided on the farm until her husband joined the service in 1941 working in a defense plant. After working for the Service they had the opportunity to move to several towns. In 1954 the family made the move to Englewood, FL. Being of the Catholic faith she and her family enjoyed attending Mass every Sunday at the Kentucky Military Institute in Venice until a mission church could be built in Englewood, which they helped to build and is now St. Raphael's Catholic Church. Mrs. Taetz and her husband moved to Lake Placid in 1975 from Englewood, FL. Mrs. Taetz was a member of the St. Augustine Diocesan Council of Catholic Women, National Council of Catholic Women, and SW Florida Sarasota Deanery, where she chaired and served on many committees, Women's Club of St. Raphael's Parish (Englewood), and is a member of the Women's Club of St. James Catholic Church in Lake Placid. Mrs. Taetz is preceded in death by both her parents and loving husband of 69 years Elmer, sister, Loretta Smith and brothers, Arthur, Edmund, Joseph, Walter and Vincent Muenks. She is survived by her loving children, Sister Joanne Taetz, Wilbert Taetz (Haiyoung), Robert Taetz (Judy), and Daniel Taetz (Kathleen), 5 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandsons. A Funeral Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Union, MO. Inurnment will follow in the Church Gardens.
