Joan Marie Powers, 89, of Lake Placid went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, January 30, 2024 at the Advent Health Sebring Hospital. Joan was born on February 14, 1934 in Detroit, Michigan. She was the daughter of Lucille (Halpin) and Frank Phillips. Joan has been a resident of Lake Placid since 1980, moving here from Hialeah, FL. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church Lake Placid where she sang in the choir, played in the bell choir, ARP Women's Ministries, Lake Placid Elks Lodge 2661 and Toby's Clown Alley where Joan was know as "Flutterby". Joan enjoyed many activities both at her church and around the community. She loved to be with her family and friends whenever they could get together. Joan is preceded in death by her loving husband of 47 years William "Bill" Powers, son; Robert M. Powers and her parents Lucille and Frank Phillips. Joan is survived by her loving children; Bonnie Taylor and William "Bill" Powers, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A funeral service to celebrate Joan's life will be held 2 PM Wednesday, February 7, 2024 at the First Presbyterian Church Lake Placid 118 North Oak Avenue, Lake Placid with Rev. Ray Cameron officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time. Burial will follow at the Oak Hill Cemetery where she will be laid to rest next to her husband Bill.
