J.D. Goodson, 88, of Lake Placid went home to be with his Lord on September8, 2018 at the Lake Placid Health & Rehabilitation Center after a lengthy battle with dementia with family by his side.

J.D. was the son of Oscar and Minnie (Simmons) Goodson born on September 28, 1929 in Hamilton, Alabama.  He married Christine Hawkins on May 6, 1983.

J.D. retired from the State of Michigan, where he was a nurse for 35 years.  He and Chris moved to Lake Placid from Gulfport, Mississippi in 1994.  J.D. was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lake Placid.  He had a passion for music and could often be heard singing and playing his guitar.  He enjoyed not only music but traveling the country in his RV and fishing, lots of fishing!  He loved sitting on the dock with Chris, and enjoyed time spent with family and friends especially his 5 boys and grandchildren.

J.D. is preceded in death by his son, Dale L. Goodson, granddaughter, Melissa S. Goodson, brothers; Oscar (Bud) Goodson, Hal and Robert Goodson and a sister, Bee Schafer.  He is survived by his loving wife Chritine of 37 years, sons; Darrel L. Goodson, Donald L. Goodson (Debbie), Dennis L. Goodson (Suzanne), Matthew Wigent (Lisa), and daughter in law Susan Goodson, 15 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A visitation for family and friends to share memories will be held from 4:00pm-5:00pm Sunday, September 16, 2018.  You may also greet the family from 1:oopm until the service.  A funeral service to celebrate J.D.'s life will be held Monday, September 17, 2018 at 2:00pm at Scott Funeral Home with Rev. Ray Cameron officiating.
