Obituary

James Edward Lemon, Jr. of Lake Placid, Florida passed away on January 4, 2026. Mr. Lemon was preceded in death by his parents, James and Theodore Gwendolyn Lemon. He is survived by his wife of more than 70 years, Carolyn, four children, six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, as well as his brother, Lynnwood. Mr. Lemon was born in a rural section of Gadsden County, Florida on July 24, 1934. His parents soon moved the family to Miami, where they resided for decades. As a young boy, Mr. Lemon was active in Boy Scouts and his school's marching band – he marched in the Orange Bowl parade several times. Later, he served at various times as captain of the basketball team, baseball team, volleyball team and football team. Mr. Lemon studied engineering during his college years. In the summer of 1953, Mr. Lemon joined the U.S. Marine Corps, intending to serve in the Korean War. While he was at boot camp, an Armistice brought that war to an end. Nevertheless, the Marines developed his talents, leading to a stellar career managing engineering projects around the world. In the Marines, Mr. Lemon qualified as an expert rifleman. Mr. Lemon was a long-time member of St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church in Lake Placid, Florida. He loved listening to Abba music and Andre Rieu concerts. He also loved fishing, spending time outdoors, and photography. The family wishes to thank the staff at Compassionate Care Hospice and Scott Funeral Home for the outstanding care they have provided to Mr. Lemon. A small private memorial service will be held that includes Mr. Lemon's family. In lieu of flowers, please consider sending a donation to your favorite healthcare charity.
