James E. Howe, 81, of Lake Placid went to be with his Lord surrounded by his loving family Tuesday afternoon December 7, 2010 at his residence. He was born on February 22, 1929 in Naples, New York to parents Edward and Catherine Cavanaugh Howe. He served his country in the US Army and was a graduate of Cornell University. Mr. Howe moved to Lake Placid in 1994 from New York after retiring as a Director with the USDA. Mr. Howe was an active member with the Saint Vincent DePaul Society, a forth degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus and the St. James Catholic Church in Lake Placid.. Mr. Howe is survived by his loving wife of 19 years Elsie, daughters Catherine Morton and Trudi Decico, sons; James J. Howe and William Scheffel, grandchildren; Caitlyn Morton, Richard Halstein, Jessica Fallon and Rachel Scheffel. A gathering for family and friends will be held Thursday (Today) December 9, 2010 at the Scott Funeral Home 504 W. Interlake Blvd., Lake Placid. A Mass of the Christian Burial to celebrate James's life will be 11 AM Friday December 10, 2010 at the St. James Catholic Church 3380 Placid View Drive Lake Placid with Father Michael Cannon Celebrating.
