KOORNNEEF, Jacob, 80, of Lake Placid, Florida, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, March 21, 2010. He was born January 9, 1930 in De Lier, Holland. Jake was the founder of Delray Plants, one of the largest mass market producers of indoor tropical plants in the United States. The business, originating in Delray Beach, Florida began in 1968 and remained there for over 30 years before relocating to Venus, Florida.
Jake is survived by his loving bride of 54 years, Maria Johanna. He leaves behind a son, Edward Koornneef (Pamela); daughter Marian Gilde (Randy); son William Koornneef along with eight adult grandchildren and seven great grand children.
Jake was an active member for many years of Lake Worth Christian Reformed Church in Lake Worth, Florida where he served as an elder and Shepherding elder and currently attends Covenant Presbyterian Church in Sebring, Florida. He contributed to many beloved missions with his ultimate goal to introduce those to the love of Christ.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 24, 2010 between 2:00-4:00pm; and 6:00-8:00pm at Scott Funeral Home; 504 W. Interlake Blvd. Lake Placid, FL 33852. The funeral service will be held Thursday, March 25, 2010 at 10:00am at First Presbyterian Church of Lake Placid; 117 N. Oak Ave Lake Placid, FL 33852. Interment will follow for family at Oak Hill Cemetery. A memorial service will be held Friday, March 26, 2010 at 11:00am at Lake Worth Christian Reformed Church; 1325 N. A Street Lake Worth, FL 33460.
