J. O. Shelton Jr., call Joede by family and friends, of Lake Placid, Florida, passed away suddenly January 20, 2024. Joede was born in Sherman, Texas, on January 2, 1946. He was the son of Verna Mae and Joe Shelton. Joede was preceded in death by his sister Jackie Kellogg and her husband John, and by Coy Moble, husband and his sister Sue Moble. He was also preceded in death by Tim Patterson, husband of his sister Suzy Patterson. Joede is survived by his wife Ruth Shelton, his daughter Theresa Shelton, and his sisters Sue Moble and Suzy Patterson. He served in the Army for 2 years at Ft. McPherson, Georgia, where he met Ruth. They lived in Dallas, Texas, where he worked as a supervisor for DART. He received many letters of appreciation and commendations when retiring and moving to Florida. He was a member of the Elks, where he had many good friends. He enjoyed Bridge Night at Tomoka Heights, where he and Ruth lived very happily from 2004 to the present. He attended First Presbyterian Church of Lake Placid. A service to celebrate Joede's life will be held 11:00 AM, Thursday, January 25, 2024 at the First Presbyterian Church Lake Placid 118 N. Oak Avenue, Lake Placid with Rev. Ray Cameron officiating. Military honors will be presented by the United States Army Honor Guard. Joede will be placed at the Sarasota National Cemetery at a later date.
