Gladys C. McFarland, 89, of Lake Placid went to be with her Lord Wednesday evening April 10, 2013 at the Lake Placid Health Care Center surrounded by her family. She was born on August 19, 1923 in Poplar Bluff, Missouri to parents Amanda (Wells) and James Simpson. Gladys retired from the Pontiac Motor Division of General Motors after 31 years of employment. She and her husband moved to Lake Placid in 1990 from Pontiac, Michigan. Mrs. McFarland enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking and family events and loved spending time with her family and friends. She was a member of the Community Church of God in Lake Placid. Mrs. McFarland is survived her loving husband of 70 years Cecil; daughters, Jeanne Penrod and Elizabeth "Buffie" Dumas; 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. A service to celebrate Mrs. McFarland's life will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday April 16, 2013 at the Community Church of God 735 South Sun 'N Lakes Blvd. Lake Placid with Pastor Joseph Dehart officiating. The family suggests donations in Mrs. McFarland's memory to the Memorial Building Fund at the Community Church of God.
