Ms. Gertrude C. Williams, 88, of Lake Placid went to be with her Lord on Friday morning September 9, 2011 surrounded by her family at Bal Moral Assisted Living. She was born on January 8, 1923 in Skowhegan, Maine and one of eight children of Edward and Grace (Smith) Flynn. She enlisted in the US Navy during WWII as a cook and after being honorably discharge she moved to Lake Placid in 1945 from the Key West Naval Base. Ms. Williams worked in the cafeteria as a cook for the Highlands County School System. She had a passion for cooking meals for the many church functions at the First Baptist Church of Lake Placid where she was a long time member. Ms. Williams loved spending time with family and friends and enjoyed working around in her yard with the many different plants. Ms. Williams is survived by her loving children, Carol Sue McCoon, Jackie, Jimmie and Richard Williams, 15 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. Funeral services celebrating Ms. Williams's life will be held at 11AM Tuesday September 13, 2011 at the First Baptist Church of Lake Placid 119 E Royal Palm Street with Pastor Mike Ford officiating. The family will receive friends the hour preceding the service beginning at 10 AM. Burial will follow at the Oak Hill Cemetery.
