Geraldine "Geri" Russo, 68, of Lake Placid, FL, formerly of Syracuse, NY entered the Kingdom of Heaven on Saturday, June 1, 2013 after a courageous battle with cancer. Geri was born in Cornwall, Ontario, Canada on May 5, 1945. She moved to Syracuse, NY as a teenager, where she met and married her high school sweetheart, John. On September 7, 2013 they would have celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary. Geri retired from Prudential Insurance Co. in the early 90's in Syracuse, NY. When she "retired" from retirement, she was the Town Clerk of Jerusalem for the town of Penn Yan in NY for over ten years. Geri and John relocated to Lake Placid, FL in 1998. After over five years of volunteer service at Florida Hospital Lake Placid and the Lake Placid Elks Lodge, she worked at Rosewood Assisted Living Center for many years. Then in 2004, she became Office Manager for the Elks Lodge of Lake Placid, FL served two terms as Lady President and gave endless hours of volunteer service. Geri loved Life and Lived every minute to the fullest. She lit up a room when she walked in it and knew how to make everyone laugh. She loved to cook, dance, play cards, travel and spend time with her family. She was classy, sassy and an absolute firecracker. If you had the honor to know her, you were blessed! Geri leaves behind her devoted husband of 49 years, John W. Russo; her loving children, son, Philip (Tricia) Russo of Baldwinsville, NY; daughter, Darlene (RJ) Stanger of Liverpool, NY; three grandchildren. John Philip Russo, Daniel John Newman and Nicole Marie Newman, all of Syracuse, NY; sister in law, Judith (Richard) Liberty of Baldwinsville, NY and many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. Geri is predeceased by her parents, Leona and Gerard Laurin; her in-laws, Alice and Philip Russo and several aunts and uncles. A remembrance ceremony will be held to celebrate Geri's life at the Elks Lodge, located at 200 CR 621 E. Lake Placid, FL 33852 on Saturday June 8, 2013 at 2:00 PM.
