George Bascom Hendricks, age 74, died February 27, 2010, at Avow Hospice in Naples, Florida. He was born June 24, 1935, in Charleston, WV. He graduated from Nitro High School in 1953 and attended Marshall College in Huntington, WV. He served in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1962. He and his family moved to Naples, Florida, in 1966 and lived there until his retirement in 2004, at which time he and his wife moved to Lake Placid. George was in residential construction all his life, starting as a journeyman brick/block layer in Ohio, and worked for several home builders in Lee and Collier Counties, Florida. He was president/owner of Atlas Pile Driving, Inc., in Naples for many years and it was the joy of his construction life. George loved bass fishing and golfing and spent as much time doing one or the other as he could and enjoyed both immensely after his retirement.

He was predeceased by his parents, Dr. and Mrs. Earl Hendricks; an infant brother, Earl Lynn; and his sister Patricia and her husband, Elmer O. Duncan.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Wanda, and two daughters, Laurel Hendricks in Charlotte, NC, and Ruth Szabo and her husband, Steve, in Naples; and a granddaughter Jessica in Charlotte, NC. He is also survived by brothers-in-law George W. (Phyllis) Bussard of Eaton, Ohio; Harry Bussard of Germantown, Ohio; and sisters-in-law, Eva Huffman of Felda, Florida; Fonda Bussard of Germantown, Ohio; and Judy (Paul) Howdyshell of St. Joseph, Illinois. He has a number of nieces and nephews.

At his request, he will be cremated and there will be no services. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or to a charity of your choice. Arrangements are through the Scott Funeral Home in Lake Placid, Florida. 863-465-4134
