Judge George Edward Burgess, 87 went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at his residence surrounded by his wife and family and his beloved pets.  George was born on July 28, 1930 in Chicago to George E. Burgess and Anna Mae née Morgan.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Donald. He Is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy and his three sons, Russell (Brenda), Thomas, and Kevin, his daughter Natasha, his siblings Eugene (Gloria), Edward (Sally) Virginia Cronk (Michael) and Annemarie Paulis (Bruce) his granddaughter Anya Russell and grandson Pierson Davis his many nieces and nephews.

George served his country with honors in the US Marine Corps during the Korean War. After completing his enlistment, he became a Chicago Police Officer, an FBI Agent and a practicing attorney.  He was appointed to the Federal Bench, Department of Justice in Maryland.  George was a long time resident of Lake Placid during his retirement.  He enjoyed meeting with his fellow veterans at the Highlands County Veterans Service Office.  George was a member of the Lake Placid Elks Lodge #2661, American Legion Placid Post 25 and St. James Catholic Church.  George was a true sportsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and the outdoors.  He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family, and was especially proud of his grandchildren.

A Celebration Of Life will take place to remember George on Thursday, May 31, 2018 at 2:00 PM at the Scott Funeral Home, 504 W.
