Gary Lee Thurman, 78, of Lake Placid went home to be with h is Lord on Sunday, September 11, 2022 at the Advent Health Sebring Hospital. Gary was born on October 3, 1943 in Peewee Valley, Kentucky and was the son of Virginia (Boutch er ) and Ralph Thurman. Gary has been a resident of Lake Placid for the past eight years moving here from Broward County. He was the retired owner and operator of the Airboat Headquarters Inc. in Opa-Locka, FL . He was a legend in the airboat community, building and servicing many forms of airboats for hunting, racing, fishing, rescue and touring. Gary was a lifetime member of the Broward County Airboat Half track Conservation Club and the Airboat Association of Florida . He was of the Baptist faith that enjoyed hunting, fishing, and air boating a nd spending time in the woods . Gary was proud of his two sons and their accomplishments. Gary is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Brenda, sons; Kevin (Kelly) an d Michael Thurman, grandchildren Kelsie Nicole Webb , Gar ed Botts and a brother; Richard (Faye) Thurman, 2 nephews; Brent, and Damon Thurman. He will be missed by those knew and loved him. A service to celebrate Gary's life will be held at a later date.
