After his 24 years of Naval service, Fred met Clydine Patterson. After a few months of dating, they knew they had found true love and were wed. They were married for 48 years, until Clydine's passing in 2012. Their life took them from Kentucky to Texas and then South Florida where Fred worked as a carpenter for Palm Beach's historic luxury waterfront hotel, The Breakers. Fred and Clydine had many good friends and were active in the Okeechobee Church of Our Savior community. Their waterfront retirement home, designed by Fred, was a popular gathering place for family and friends from all over the country. These gatherings included boat trips out on Lake Okeechobee, large meals of favorite dishes from Fred's New Orleans ancestry, and storytelling.
