Obituary

Emma Lura Payne Gould, 93, of Lake Placid was called to her Heavenly home on Friday April 9, 2010 where she was met by her husband Tom, her mama and daddy John and Charlotte Payne and two sisters Dot and Ernestine. She passed away peacefully, after a short illness at her home, Balmoral Assisted Living with her family by her side. Mrs. Gould was born on October 2, 1916 in Brewster, FL and in 1918 moved with her family to Lake Stearns later to become Lake Placid where she called home for 91 years. She graduated from Lake Placid Senior High in 1935 and married Tom on May 1, 1938. She helped organize the first Lake Placid Library, the Wee Center at the First Baptist Church in Lake Placid, a past matron of the Lake Placid Eastern Star and a member of the First Baptist Church of Lake Placid where she was a member for many years. Mrs. Gould was chosen by the Historical Society's "Woman of the Year" in 2005 and also honored as Pioneer Woman of the Year in 2005. A true pioneer of Lake Placid she wrote her life's history along with the history of the town with the help of her son Tommy. Mrs. Gould is survived by her loving children, Dot Ellen "Dottie" Carter (Roger) of Sebring, FL and Thomas "Tommy" Gould (Judy) of Lake Placid, FL, the proud Grandmother of Cheryl Carter (Anita Wallace), Robbie Gould (Angie) and Nancy Gould DuVall (Lance), Great Grandmother to Paige and Emma Gould and Payne, Paxton, Alex DuVall, Alexis Truax. Extended family member include Zaida Trivette, Brenda Lowder and her many special Balmoral friends, staff and care givers. She also leaves behind many special friends that were near and dear to her. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 7: 00PM Monday afternoon April 12, 2010 along with Eastern Star services at the Scott Funeral Home, 504 W. Interlake Blvd. Lake Placid. Funeral Services celebrating Mrs. Gould's life will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday April 13, 2010 at the First Baptist Church of Lake Placid 119 E. Royal Palm Street Lake Placid with Pastor Jack White, Pastor Mike Ford and Pastor Andrew Katsanis celebrating. Burial will follow at the Oak Hill Cemetery. The family suggest donations be made to the Good Shepherd Hospice, Bud and Donna Somers's Hospice House 4418 Sun 'N Lake Blvd. Sebring, FL 33872.
