IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Elliott
Davies
November 1, 1989 – September 21, 2024
On September 21, 2024, Robert "Elliott" Davies, 34, ran through the gates of Heaven after a lifelong struggle with complications from cerebral palsy. He passed away in the arms of his mother, Diane Davies Spires with his stepfather, Don Spires at his bedside. Family left to cherish his memory are brother Joseph Dwight Davies, his devoted maternal grandmother Delma "Ema" Woosley, his aunt Carolyn "JoJo" Woosley, his father Elliott R Davies III, his "second momma" long term caregiver, Linda Courteau, step family Don and Jessica Spires, Kylie and Ryker and a fiercely, loyal extended family. Elliott is predeceased by his maternal grandfather Dwight "Paw Paw" Woosley and paternal grandparents, Elliott "Bud" and Patty Davies.
Elliott was born at Palms West Hospital, on November 1, 1989. He attended Royal Palm School in Palm Beach County, and Lake Placid Middle School and High School in Highlands County. He was a "charter player" for the Miracle League of Highlands County and enjoyed every baseball season until his health declined. Medical records described Elliott as profoundly disabled both physically and cognitively with cortical blindness and a seizure disorder. He was given a 2-year life expectancy with no hope of a meaningful existence. During those early devastating days, we never dreamed he would become our greatest teacher. His inability to see, taught us to notice all things beautiful; to never take for granted the colors of fall, a cardinal perched outside his window, a star filled sky or a sunset. His inability to speak taught us facial expressions speak volumes. He squinted when he was in pain, his nose twitched when he itched, and he raised his eyebrows when he was listening. Another lesson: He paid attention. While most of senses did not function, his hearing was perfect. Christian, Carrie Underwood, opera, and classical piano were favorites and played constantly. Music could soothe his soul. His daily need for chest compressions, breathing treatments, positioning, and repositioning and more, reminded us not to sweat the small stuff. Elliott lived with pain every day. What he endured will forever make our complaints trivial. And because we knew his days were numbered, he taught us to live in the moment. We rarely planned ahead not knowing at 9am, what 5pm would bring. Every minute and hour, counted.
Elliott's body is being donated to the Anatomical Board at University of Florida for research in honor of his brother, Joey, a Gator Alumni. A Celebration of his perseverance and Life will be held Sunday, November 24th, 1pm at South Oak Church, 119 E Royal Palm Street, Lake Placid, Fl 33852 In lieu of flowers, donations in Elliott's memory to The Miracle League for Highlands County PO BOX 671 Lake Placid, FL 33852 or online to PawsitiveEffects.org, our favorite, local non-profit providing for animal rescue (including Elliott's dog Ellie) will be treasured.
