Elfriede Katharina Erickson, "Omi", 79 of Lake Placid FL. and West Boylston MA., went home to be with her Lord on Monday morning, February 26, 2018 at the Good Shepard Hospice House in Sebring Florida. Elfriede was the daughter of Maria (Vighl) and Sebastian Scherer.  She is survived by her 3 remaining sisters;  Bobby Sattler, Finni Scherer,  of Munich Germany, and Angelika Stastny of Sacramento CA.  Also surviving are her loving husband of 48 years Wayne, devoted daughters; Anita Kingham, Virginia Greer, Rebecca Franks of Lake Charles Louisiana, Sandra Erickson- Prendiville of West Boylston MA, 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.  She is preceded in death by her Mother and Father and her sister Marianne Schenck all of Munich Germany.  Born in Munich Germany June 21 ^st 1938, she spent her childhood in war ravaged Germany and survived with two polio paralyzed sisters in bombed out cellars. The occupied Americans gave her Hershey chocolate bars. She had a core of sincere happiness, hope, inner courage and the strength to push ahead. She never quit. She finally came to America in 1957 and became a proud citizen living in Texas and Massachusetts.  She loved picking her blueberries, eating dark German chocolate, and waking up at sunrise to enjoy a cup of coffee.  Wayne and Elfriede enjoyed being snowbirds starting in Marathon FL. and ending in Lake Placid FL.  A service to celebrate Elfriede's life will be held 11:00 AM, Thursday, March 1, 2018 at the Scott Funeral Home, 504 W. Interlake Blvd., Lake Placid with Rev. Ray Cameron officiating. Further services and inurnment will take place this summer in West Boylston, MA at the Mount Vernon Cemetary.
