Edward J. Murphy, Jr., 73, of Lake Placid went to be with his Lord on Wednesday afternoon December 4, 2013 at the Kindred Hospital Melbourne. Mr. Murphy was born on August 1, 1940 in Springfield, Mass to parents Thuryle (Ewing) and Edward J. Murphy, Sr. Mr. Murphy served his country in the US Coast Guard serving on the Nantucket Light Ship as an electronics specialist. After being honorably discharged Edward began working with IBM where he retired as manger with 28 ½ years of service. Edward moved to Lake Placid from Boca Raton and was a member of the St. James Catholic Church in Lake Placid. He is survived by his loving wife: Marion; daughters, Kelly Murphy and Bridget Murphy-Bartus; sons, James Murphy (Shawnah) and Patrick Murphy (Cori); 2 grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Abbigail; sister, Linda Murphy Hreschuk and brother, James F. Murphy. The family will receive friends 1:00 PM till 2:20 PM Sunday December 8, 2013 at the Scott Funeral Home 504 W. Interlake Blvd., Lake Placid with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 3:00 PM at the St. James Catholic Church 3380 Placid View Drive Lake Placid with Father Michael Cannon officiating. Military Honors will be presented by the VFW Post 4300 Honor Guard after the Mass. Inurnment will be held at a later date.
