Mr. Donald C. Saunders, 83, of 3002 Beech Street Lake Placid, FL, died Thursday April 15, 2010 at the Florida Hospital Lake Placid, after a lengthy illness. Born September 30, 1926, in Wellsville, NY, he was a son of Arling and Hazel (Coleman) Saunders. He served his country in the US Navy during WWII. Mr. Saunders worked as a wholesale plumbing/heating salesman for many years, most recently for Harris Supply in Wellsville, NY. He retired in 1986 and moved to Lake Placid, FL with his wife, Anne (Nicholson), who died in 1995. Surviving are his wife Lucy; five children, Mr. Robert Saunders (Terry) of Atlanta, GA; Mrs. Jill Best (Alan) of Avon Park, FL; Mr. Tim Saunders (Michelle) of San Antonio, TX; Mr. Andy Saunders (Sue) of Bolivar, NY; and Mrs. Jackie Morrison (Brian) of Bolivar, NY; 19 Grandchildren and 22 Great Grandchildren. A gathering for family and friends will be held at the Hair Gallery, 12413 US Highway 98, Sebring, FL on Wednesday April 21, 2010 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Plans are still pending for burial in Maple Lawn Cemetery, Bolivar, NY. The family has requested that donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association in lieu of flowers.
