HOYT, Donald L., 73 died peacefully on July 31, 2011 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Alma, MI on August 21, 1937 to Andrew and Mildred Hoyt.
He was a dedicated father and grandfather, an avid sports fan and always valued a hard days work whether at the office or in the yard. A gifted high school athlete, he graduated from Napoleon, MI in 1955; volunteering for the U.S. Navy later that year.
Don worked along side his father-in-law and later owned The Morris W. Smith Insurance Agency located in Brooklyn, MI.
He received his master's degree in Accounting in 1974 from Western Michigan University, allowing him to achieve a life long dream of becoming a CPA and operating his own private practice while heading the accounting department at Siena Heights University in Adrian, MI.
In 1960 he married Martha Smith and they were blessed with three children Greg, Todd and Jana.
He is survived by son, Todd (Linda), grandchildren Angela and Bradley of Maumee, OH and daughter, Jana (Dick) Donovan, grandchildren Andrew (Christina) and Maleika of Killeen, TX and Laikyn (Joe) Camacho of Mableton, GA, sisters-in-law Alyce and Carolyn, nephew Christopher and niece Jennifer.
He was preceded in death by his son Greg, brothers Gerald and Keith.
Condolences may be offered at www.scottfuneralservices.com. A gathering for family and friends will be at the Braun Chapel, 137 S. Main, Brooklyn MI. on Thursday, August 11 from 3-8 where services celebrating Donald's life will be held on Friday, August 12 at 1 pm.
