Dixon Wayne Pugh, 75, of Lake Placid, went to be with his Lord on Monday evening August 13, 2012 at the Good Shepherd Hospice of Sebring, FL. Mr. Dixon Pugh was born in Shelburn, Indiana on October 3, 1936 and moved to Lake Placid in 1963. With his wife Sue and his two children began to work for a new future. Dixon and Sue were married for 53 years until she went home to be with God on August 7, 2009. The Pugh family has been in Lake Placid since 1959 and has seen as well as assisted in the town's growth. Pugh Septic Tank Service was the only septic tank company in Lake Placid and one of two in the entire county. In its beginning years, Pugh Septic Tank was the only company that had a tractor and backhoe available to load the rock and sand for the base of the Lake Placid Tower. Their backhoe was also used to help clear the vehicles involved in accidents off US 27 which at that time was 2 lanes. Pugh Septic Tank is the mother company of Highlands Utilities Corporation (HUCO). Pugh saw the need for sewer in our communities back in the early 1970's and started to build this company. Because of his vision, Lake Placid now enjoys places like Pizza Hut, Golden Corral, McDonalds, Bowling Center, Winn Dixie, Burger King, Lake Placid Elementary, the Elks lodge and many others. There were over 1500 customers in the Lake Placid and Sebring area, which includes several commercial businesses along US 27 the Lakeshore Mall area, as well as several mobile home parks and residential homes. In his younger years Dixon enjoyed water skiing on Lake Clay, camping, chaperoning for Lake Placid Band functions. In church, he served on numerous committees. For many years he worked in the nursery and preschools Sunday School, ran the sound, and ushered in services. In later years, at his personal cost, Dixon created a new video ministry at his church, recording every service and special events. Recordings could be purchased at a minimum cost and given to the home bound. He graduated from Shelburn High in Shelburn, Indiana. Dixon had a great love for basketball where he was the team captain. Dixon loved antiques and finding old bottles. He loved preserving the past through his photography. Dixon's survivors include: Two daughters, Connie Pugh Twiggs and Lorri Pugh Lammie; Connie's husband of 34 years, George; four grandchildren, Dustin Twiggs, Shannon Stuteville, Brittanie Murray and Marcie Bivins; three great grandchildren, Rayahna Murray, Addison Twiggs, and our newest Gift from God, little Jorja Bivins, born August 10, 2012. Memorial donations may be made in Dixon's honor to Lake Josephine First Baptist Church for the playground fund. Visitation for family and friends will be 10:00-11:00AM Friday, August 17, 2012 at Scott Funeral Home with a Service to celebrate Dixon's life beginning at 11 AM. Entombment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.
