Charles David McLochlin, 73, of Lake Placid, Florida, passed away on July 5, 2023, after a short fight with cancer. Born February 25, 1950, in Plymouth, Indiana, Charles or Dave, as some might have called him, earned a bachelors degree and a masters degree, both in Engineering, from Purdue University. He obtain a doctor of philosophy degree from the University of Florida in 1989. His copyrighted dissertation was entitled "Formulas and algorithms for optimizing the performance of rapid changing satellite networks." He later received recognition from the faculty of Johns Hopkins University for his continuing education in Engineering. He worked most of his adult life for the National Security Agency, living in many places around the world. An avid runner, he competed in numerous foot races, including the Boston Marathon. Always interested in the mechanics of flight, he built and flew, many experimental aircraft, such as ultralights. He also participated in paragliding regularly. Forever furthering his education, until May of this year he was enrolled at Broward Community College to become an aircraft mechanic, so he could work on and certified his own aircraft engines. Charles was preceded in death by his parents Francis and Velma McLochlin, and two of his siblings, James McLochlin and Helen Bush. He is survived by his sister, Peggy J. Taylor, of Lake Placid, and several nieces and nephews.
