Carole Jean Mattson, 86, of Lake Placid, FL passed away peacefully with the love of her life by her side on April 8, 2026. She was battling Lewey Body Dementia. She is the wife of Gordon Henry Mattson. The couple would have celebrated 68 years of marriage on May 10th. She was the mother to; Cheryl (Dan) Dirmeyer, Jillian (Dennis) Peck and proceeded in death by her son Gordon Henry Mattson Jr. Carole was the grandmother to; Danielle Holman, Erin (Robert) Sopsich, Samuel J. Peck, Sarah (Drew) Peck and Connor Mattson, and great-grandmother to; Nora Kresge, Jase Holman, Marion Sopsich and Ave Jean Sopsich. Carole worked in retail most of her life and retired as a bookkeeper from A & P grocery store located in Michigan. After retiring Carole became very active as the President of the Volunteer Auxiliary at Florida Hospital (AdventHealth) in Lake Placid. She enjoyed flowers and gardening. She loved to sing songs from her childhood to her grand and great-grandchildren. Carole was also an avid bowler and succeeded in bowling several 300 games throughout her lifetime. Carole and Gordon were very active with “The Little Theatre” in Sebring where they acted in plays, help build sets, and helped prepare prime rib dinners. She and Gordon enjoyed traveling by cruise ship to a number of exciting locations around the world. In keeping with Carole’s wishes the family will celebrate her life in private.
