Betty J. Murphy, 92, of Lake Placid, Florida, went home to be with her Lord on Thursday morning, July 30, 2026, at her residence.

Betty was born on May 3, 1934, in Royal Oak, Michigan, to Carl and Beatrice Danhausen Faupel. She had been a resident of Lake Placid for the past twenty years, having moved there from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where she was the retired owner and operator of the Carolina Court Motel.

Betty was of the Lutheran faith, loved Jesus, and found great comfort in Psalm 23, her favorite passage of Scripture. She was an avid tennis player, enjoyed knitting, and loved cooking her family’s favorite meals and desserts. She especially loved hosting family gatherings and spending time with her loved ones and friends.

Betty was preceded in death by her beloved son, Larry Wolverton. She is survived by her loving husband, Jay; her daughters, Sandy Dempsey, Michelle Wade, and Nicole Whitton; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

A service to celebrate Betty’s life will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church 580 Indian Trace in Weston, Florida, on Saturday, September 12, at 11:00 a.m.
