Betty Ann Echols went to her heavenly home on October 30, 2023, following a lengthy illness. She was born in Roanoke, Alabama on October 4, 1938. She graduated from Pahokee High School and received her undergraduate degree in education from Mercer University. Betty went on to earn her Master's degree in Guidance and Counseling from Florida Atlantic University. Betty taught for a total of 35 years. She taught in Okeechobee, Belle Glade, and then spent most of her time teaching high school English at Lake Worth High School in Lake Worth, Florida. She was loved by her many students and faculty members. She had a unique ability to motivate students who had given up on their teachers and school. Betty loved to travel, visiting many locations around the world to see wildlife in their natural habitat. As an original Jacksonville Jaguar season ticket holder, she has been a faithful Jaguar fan for 28 years. She was a Florida Gator fan her whole life. Most important to Betty was relationships with friends and family. She was often visiting or on the phone enjoying the latest updates from those special to her. Betty was a member of Arlington United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents Annie Hudson Echols and Lorenzo Dow Echols, brothers James Terrell Echols and Charles Wilbur Echols. She is survived by her brother Renza Wayne Echols (Eleanor), niece Diedra Echols Burton (Mike), nephew Robert Echols (Jill), nephew Philip Echols (Paula), niece Sherida Echols Ridgdill (Allen), nephew Russell Echols (Sharon), niece Kimberly Box (Kevin), niece Stefanie Lee (Jesse), nephew Steve Abowd (Kim), many great nieces and nephews, special friend Sandra Kessler and her sweet cat Rags. A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM, at the Lake Placid First Presbyterian Church on November 6, 2023 with Pastor's Ray Cameron and Drew Severance officiating. Betty will be buried along with her brother, Charles Wilbur Echols, at the Oak Hill Cemetery.
