Barbara Ann Horton, 86, of Lake Placid, passed away peacefully at Palm City Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on February 11, 2026, surrounded by her family.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, Barbara was the third eldest of nine children. She was employed for over 30 years at Southeastern Sporting Goods in Hialeah, Florida. She was a lifelong member of the Moose Lodge in Miami and Lake Placid, along with the VFW in Lake Placid. She was known as the "Motorcycle Avon Lady" in Lake Placid for over 18 years. Barbara's life was field with simple joys of bowling and riding her motorcycle.
She is survived by her children; Cynthia Williams (Paul), Mary Glick and Katherine Books (Steven), her 14 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren and her brother; Herbert Sickler.
She was preceded in death by her husband Troy O. Horton, children; Linda Walizer, Troy W. Horton and William Horton and seven of her siblings.
The family will receive friends on Friday, February 20, 2026, from 2:00PM to 4:00PM at the Scott Funeral Home 504 W. Interlake Blvd., Lake Placid. A funeral service to celebrate Barbara's life will be held 10:00 AM on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at the Leisure Lakes Baptist Church 808 Gardenia Street, Lake Placid with Pastor Don Roberts officiating. Burial will follow at the Oak Hill Cemetery, Lake Placid.
A gathering reception will follow back at the church following the burial.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Leisure Lakes Baptist Church, honoring Barbara's lifelong passion for her community church.
Barbara's warmth, generosity but forever deeply missed, but forever remembered by all who knew her.
