Adelaide W. Thomsen, age 90, of Lake Placid, FL, formerly of New Paltz, NY, passed away on Sun. Aug. 14, 2011 at Balmoral Assisted Living in Lake Placid, FL. She was born on May, 1, 1921 in Queens, NY, to the late William and Amelia (Struning) Werling. She graduated from Jamaica High School in Queens and on Oct. 10, 1942 married the late Harold E. Thomsen, Jr. to whom she was married for 56 years until his death in 1998.
In 1981 she retired from being the secretary for the Town on New Paltz Building Inspector. Upon moving to Lake Placid, FL, she & Harold became active in the Covered Bridge Homeowners' Assoc., Highlands Little Theater, and the Florida Hospital Lake Placid Auxillary where she served for over 25 years. She was also a member of the Lake Placid Woman's Club and Trinity Lutheran Church and its LWML.
She is survived by two daughters, Marion (Paul) Cook and Valerie (Jon) Simonson of New Paltz, NY and two sons, John (Jean) Thomsen III of Lake Placid, FL and Garry (Dawn) of New Paltz, NY. She was also blessed with ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Memorial Services will be at Trinity Lutheran Church on Tues. Aug. 23 at 2:00 PM with the Reverend Richard Norris officiating.
